Flashback Friday

When: May 2012
What: Attempt at cake decorating

Last April, my friend Tiffany made a super cute rainbow cake for her twin's first birthday. I went over to help her frost it and she had done such a great job with all the colorful layers! In the end, it look so fun with its perfect white coating, completely hiding the surprise inside!

My friend Miranda celebrated her birthday just a month later and I thought it would be an awesome idea to make HER a rainbow cake! Tiffany had made it look so simple and I thought it would be "a piece of cake"!!

It started off fairly easy... All I had to do was make the cake batter and dye it all the shades of the rainbow! {A shout out THANK YOU to my lovely friend Charmaine who came over to help me! And you hung out at my house while I went to the store for more powdered sugar}

I even got them out of the oven and out of the pans without incident!

But that's when things started falling apart.... literally!
I am NOT a good frosting maker. I don't know what the problem is because frosting is pretty basic... but the frosting I made that day just wasn't that great. It was really sticky... which might sound like a great way to hold the cake together, but it had the opposite affect. The more layers I stacked, the worse it leaned! I kept putting the stupid thing back in the fridge, hoping that would help! I remember at one point I just used my hand to push the layers back together.... ruining the outside.

It was pretty titled when I finished, but I figured it would make it to Miranda's apartment. Well, this is what it looked like after the ten minute drive!

 The leaning tower of rainbow cake..... Impressive, right?

If you cut the cake just so, and take a picture from just the right angel, you can almost see the look I was going for!

It wasn't long before gravity took over though and my rainbow cake because a big huge FAIL!!

It's a good thing cake tastes delicious no matter what state it's in!!
