That's Not My Name

Amanda......
A pretty simple name!!
My last name is pretty easy too {even if get gets spelled wrong ALL the time}.

But sometimes when I talk to someone who I have never met before and they hear my whole name they will pause and then say something like:
"Oh wait.... Amenda Marcos? Are you related to that famous foreign lady"
                                                 or
"Ohhhh...... Imenda Marko. I think I have heard of you"
                                                or
"Aren't you some princess from Asia?"

No people!! That is not my name!!
And if I was some Asian princess, why in the world would I be HERE, calling you about your loan?!? Plus she is like 82..... I hope I dont sound 82!!

They somehow confuse me with this lady:

Her name is Imelda Marcos.
Okay... so I can understand how some people might get it wrong!!
I had someone ask me one of those questions today, and I finally decided to Google her!
She married a Filipino politician and served in many political positions herself!

While we do not share a name, we do share a common interest......
ACCESSORIES!!!
After she had her family were exiled they found 508 gowns, around 1000 handbags and almost 3000 pairs of shoes in their palace!!

3000 pairs of shoes?!?! She is my kind of lady!!

Glossy

I may have a small obsession.......
With lip stuff!
Lip gloss, lip stick, lip balm,
lip stains, chap stick.... you name it,
I love it!!

I have a bag within my purse that

is just for my lip stuff!! And guess

what, the fabric the bag

is made from is covered

in different kinds of lip stuff! 

I may or may not buy some kind
of lip stuff almost every time I am at the store.....
Okay, I do!

And I may or may not get sucked

in by fancy/pretty/shinny

packaging....Yes, I am one

of those people!!

Well, the other day I was at Target

{LOVE that place}

trying to find some really awesome

lip stain! I have searched for it

at a few different stores and it

has been out!!

Target didn't have it either...

and I was pretty bummed!

But, remember how I said I have

a slight addiction....

Well, I couldn't leave the makeup

isle without some lip stuff!!!

It turned out to be a good thing that

the lip stain was gone because I

found something even better!!

It is glossy lip stain!! Sweet huh!!

It's called Natureluxe Lip Gloss!! 

It's amazing!! I LOVE it!!

It is nice and shiny and leaves

color on my lips for hours

after the shine has worn off!!

I went back to Target yesterday

to pick something up!

It took a lot of self control not

to buy another one!!

But there's always next time.......

What Would You Do?

Have you seen this guy?

He is the host of a show on ABC called What Would You Do?

I watched it tonight.... It's not the first time I've watched it either. Every time I watch it, I truly ask myself "what would I do in that situation".

If you haven't seen the show, let me set it up for you.

Different scenarios are set up and then hidden cameras capture the reactions of the people there. These scenes are never very pleasant. They usually involve someone being teased, bullied, taunted, shut out or ignored.

It really is amazing to watch the various ways different people handle the situation. And it is always inspiring to watch people step in and help a complete stranger.

I remember seeing an episode about bullying. They set the scene up a few different ways... first boys bullying a boy and then girls bullying a girl. They were probably between the ages of 10 and 14... so none of them were very big. It was interesting to watch some people just keep walking by... acting like they saw and heard nothing. Then there were the people who stopped and watched... but still did nothing. And then there were the people who walked up to these seemingly punk kids and told them to knock it off!! One lady totally laid into the kids and then turned around and comforted the bullied child.

What would I do? What would you do?

As an adult, would I dare to go up to some random, obnoxious kids and tell them to leave another kid alone? As someone who has been teased I would like to think I would walk up to them tell them to back off!!

On tonight's episode one of the scenes started out with a father and son at a toy store and the little boy wanted to buy a Barbie. Then the scene switched and the pair came into the store with the son

wearing a princess dress. Almost every single person {mostly women} stood up to the dad when his son wanted the Barbie! And then when another man started harassing the dad for letting his son wear a dress TONS of ladies stepped in to help him!!

I don't know if I would have said anything...... that probably sounds horrible!! But I don't know if I am brave enough to stand up to another adult like that.......

So what would you do??

What is some crazy waiter was telling an over weight person how disgusting they were for ordering a deluxe cheeseburger and onion rings..... or what if a cashier was giving someone a hard time for using food stamps.... What if you saw someone harassing a black man for dating a white woman.... Would you step in if you saw an extremely rude guy threatening his girlfriend who has obvious bruises and marks on her face?

These are all things they have done on that show!!

I am not a very brave person..... would I stand up for a complete stranger? I hope I would!! Because I would want someone to do the same for me!!

I Dont Know Who Invented High Heels, But All Woment Owe Him A Lot!

I love high heels!
Have I ever mentioned that?!?

Today I wish I had these wonderful heels!! They would match my outfit perfectly!!

It's been way to long since I have bought a pair of fun heels..... Hmmmm, payday is next week..... I need a good BOGO sale!!

Bottled Up

Remember how I used some fun vases and jars for part of my Christmas decorating?

Well.... I decided that is my new favorite thing to decorate with...... Apothecary jars to be specific!

I don't know what it is about these fun jars and bottles....

Maybe it's their beautiful shape.....

Or the fact that you can fill them with anything.....

Or use them any where.......

 What ever it is, I have some big ideas!!

I am going to be visiting some local thrift stores today and I'm crossing my fingers that I will find some really great jars!! I am thinking some Valentines inspired jars would be great right about now!!

Book #1

I just finished reading City of Glass by Cassandra Clare.
City of Glass is the third book in The Mortal Instruments series, a young adult urban fantasy series set in New York City. I thought this was last books in a trilogy.... but apparently not! I was online today and it looks like there might be 3 more books!!

I wasnt sure if I liked these books to begin with. But by the time I got to this one, I was pretty hooked! I am actually pretty excited that there are some more books to come {not to excited that I have to wait for them to be published though}!!
This book has a cast of Shadowhunters, werewolves, warlocks, demons, and yes.... there are some vampires!

One book down this year.... many more to go!!

All That Sparkle

For me, the worst part of Christmas is taking all the decorations down!! The house and shelves always feel so empty, especially where the tree used to stand!

So... it's January 6th and I still haven't taken the tree down! I am just not ready for that big empty corner! But I did take my JOY letters off the mantle! And it looked WAY to empty! So I made these to fill the spot:

I am pretty excited about them!!

As you can tell, I have been pretty obsessed with glitter this holiday season!! I just love things that sparkle!! And I am really loving the color combo!!

I used some of my left over glitter to make a few more sparkly trees......

Put it all together and you have my new winter mantle!!!

This Is the Year

I have this weird thing with numbers.....

I don't really like the odd ones!

Well, that is not totally true!! 15 is

an okay number... and so are 9 and 25.

But.... I don't like numbers such as

7, 19, or 21!

I promise I am not OCD...... I really

don't know what my number problem is!!

So I was honestly a little bummed that

we were heading into an odd year!

But when I really stop to think about it,

a lot of my "big event" years have been odd!!

I got my drivers license in an odd year!

I graduated from high school is 2003 {gasp....

I am OLD} and I graduated from the

UofU in 2009! I also got my new fancy car

in an odd year!!

So maybe this will be my year......

Because it is odd it will be there year that

great and spectacular things happen......

I saw something like

I hope she doesn't mind that

I am going to copy her!!

New Year Resolutions!

Getting down to my goal weight is

probably my top priority goal!! If

I work hard I should be able to

get there by October {just in time

for the holiday season to spoil

it... haha}!!!

Today is my first day of trying to

be good again..... I did slip up

though and had a rice krispy

treat earlier...... Tomorrow

will be better!!

I {LOVE} to read!!

This year I want to spend

more time reading!! I think I

might even start a book diary here

on my blog!! So if you have read

any really good books lately

and you think I should read them,

let me know!!!

I am also determined to

create a budget this year!

And I am going to

stick to it no matter what!

My next goal probably totally

contradicts the saving $$ goal!!

But I really want to do some more

traveling this year!!

I think my family is going to

Florida at some point this year

and I am so excited about that!

But I also wouldn't mind visiting places

like St George.... or even a Las Vegas

weekend!! All for as cheap as possible

of course!!!

So, those are just a few of

my goals for this year!!

My Year In Statuses

I have seen a few people do this on Facebook and meant to do it before the end of the year! But last week was crazy... so I just got around to it now {not that it is really that far into 2011}!!

It was kind of fun to go back and read the things I posted on Facebook throughout the year!! Many of them had to do with laundry.... about the fact that I didn't want to do it... or that it was piling up! There were also lots of posts complaining about work.... and wishing for the weekend!
