The Little Plant That Could

At work my bosses office is right above mine. Many times
when I need to take something too her or talk to her I take
a "shortcut" to her office.
My shortcut? Walking out the fire escape door that
leads outside and
walking up the concrete stairs. Lazy.... probably.

This past spring I saw something cool on one of my
little shortcuts up the
steps...

This little plant started growing out of the dead fall leaves!!
I thought it was pretty cool that it spread its roots on concrete
and cheered it on every time I went outside.

It did pretty well for not growing in dirt. And then our landscaping guy came and
cleaned out the stairwell!!

Book #16

Ellen and Mimi Dodge have never been close, but their mother's dying wish sends them on a walking tour of Hampshire, England, that follows in the footsteps of Jane Austen. Their mother also left them something else: a diary that belonged to Jane's sister Cassandra. These pages shed light on the secrets that nearly tore the Austen sisters apart and inspired one of the greatest love stories of all time. They also bring Jane to life in a way that no one has ever seen before: through the eyes of her sister. As the Dodge sisters embark on their walking tour, they too are drawn together in ways they never expected. They also discover that Cassandra's diary holds secrets, and someone doesn't want Ellen and Mimi to discover the truth. As they stumble on their way toward love, the women learn how Jane and Cassandra Austen inspired the original Marianne and Elinor Dashwood and come to realize that despite their very different personalities, they are a vital part of each other's happy endings.

I was so excited to start reading this book!!! Earlier this year I read "Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart" and I LOVED it, so I couldn't wait to read the next book by Beth Pattillo.

But.....

I didn't love this one as much. I am not really sure what it was.... I just had a hard time picking it up and getting into the story {maybe I am too much in love with Mr Darcy and the whole Pride & Prejudice story line}. I guess you could say I was kind of bored with it. It was still a pretty good novel though and the mystery of the diary was exciting! It even inspired me to watch Sense & Sensibility {which of course means I HAVE to watch P&P too}!
I like this author though!! And I am hoping that sometime in the near future there will be at least 4 more books written about the other Jane Austen classics!!

Kaboom!!

There is kind of a funny story that does with this picture......

I was coming home from work one afternoon and as I walked in the front door a big, gross, black spider ran across my toes and into the house. I was in momentary shock that this disgusting arachnid had just run across my foot and that gave the dumb thing time to hide itself in the corner.

I freaked out. There was screaming.

I ran down the hallway to my room to grab my bug spray.... it wasn't there..... I went down to the laundry room..... no bug spray...... I ran back upstairs, leaped over the threshold and went to look for the spray outside..... no luck!
I was panicking at that point! Because I couldn't find my spray and I knew that that spider was going to eventually end up in my room and I HAD to kill it! I ran back inside {again leaping over the door stop} and checked my room one more time.
At that point I had woken up my roommate {who thought we were being robbed} and she suggested using Windex to kill it. I was pretty skeptical about it and knew we needed to come up with something different!!

And then I had a brilliant idea......

Kaboom Foaming Bathroom Spray!!!!

Yes, it is the perfect back up bug spray!! I held the button down longer than I probably needed to..... but I had to be absolutely sure that thing was dead!!! I was the winner of the battle {and found my bug spray about 5 minutes later}!!

Fun Photo September

I take a lot of pictures with my iPhone.... most of them are of completely random things!! I was going through them the other day and decided that I am going to show them off this month!! Here is day number 1!!

I had to get my passport out of my safe deposit box the other day so I could renew my drivers license. I wish that I was getting it out for a more exciting reason, but there are so out of the country trips in my near future!! Maybe next year!! It's fun to flip through it though and see the stamps that I have acquired so far though!!

Is That The Sound of Crunching Leaves

Where did August go?
I cant believe that it is already over!!
That means that summer is pretty much over too!!
I was a little sad thinking about that today.....

But, with the end of summer comes THE BEST time of year!
Autumn!!!
My most favorite season of them all!!
And September is the gateway to my favorite month!
October!
I love that month!

It's already gotten a cooler here.
{If you can call mid 80s cooler!!}
It does feel kind of chilly though....
When you are so used to high 90s!
It's been nice change!
Because I can drive with the windows down!!

Tomorrow is also supposed to be "cooler".
I wish I had one of these to spend the afternoon in!
I would sit and read my book all day!
Enjoying the breeze...
And the beginning of the long weekend!!!

{This is totally unrelated to my post..... other than I did mention October, which is pumpkin season! But it came up in my "hammock" search (no idea how this thing and a hammocks are related) and I thought it was too cool not to share!!}
